Marie (Matteau aka Matton) came to Lafontaine about 1875 at the age of 27 and was married 6 years later to Joseph Montgrain, a farmer.

She gave birth to two sons, Octave & Henri, and a daughter, Mary Emma, who died at the age of one month.

Her husband, Joseph, died of Hypothermia a year and half later in 1888 at the age of 35.

Two and a half years later, in 1891, she married Narcisse Blanchard, a school teacher that had been widowed for a second time in 1888 and still had 3 of the 7 children from his first marriage with him.
